Tabi’in Thawus bin Kaisan Straight Counselor

Shortly after the Muslim caliph Sulaiman bin Abdul Malik bin Marwan lowered his belongings near Baitul Atiq, then let go of his longing for the Ka’bah, he turned to his bodyguard and said, “Look for a god who can warn us on a glorious day between days this day of God. “

The guard departed to meet the people who were in the pilgrimage and asked according to what the Caliph wanted. People say, “Here is Thawus bin Kaisan, the most honest figure of the expert jurist who said in preaching to Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. Therefore, meet him. “

The guard approached Thawus and said, “Follow us, Amir al-mu’minin invites you O shaykh!”

Without wasting time, Thawus followed him. According to him that every da’i should not waste time if there is an opportunity. Every time they are invited, they arrive immediately. He also believes that the main sentence to be delivered is the correct sentence to straighten the rulers who deviate and keep them away from tyranny and cruelty, while bringing them closer to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

Arriving in front of the Commander of the Faithful, he greeted and was greeted very cordially. Then the Caliph guided him to his assembly, then asked about the question of the Hajj rituals. He listened diligently and respectfully.

When he felt that Amir al-mu’minin had obtained the necessary information and there were no more questions, Thawus said to himself, “This is the assembly which you will be asked to hold accountable by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, O Thawus.”

Thawus, turned to the Caliph and said, “O Amir al-mu’minin, actually there is a large rock on the edge of the well of the land. The stone was thrown to the bottom of the land and only reached its base after 70 years. Do you know for whom the well is provided, O Amirul Mukminin? “

The Caliph said, “No, duhai woe, for whom is that?” Thawus bin Kaisan replied, “For those whom Allah is the enforcer of His law, but he misused him.”

Suddenly the body of the Caliph Sulaiman trembled until I assumed his soul would fly from his body. After that he sobbed. Then Thawus left the Majlis and went home while the Caliph prayed that Thawus would receive more reply from Allah.

When the caliph moved into the hands of Umar bin Abdul Aziz, Thawus received a letter from Amir al-mu’minin in its contents, “Give me advice, O Abu Abdirrahman!” Thawus bin Kaisan answered the letter with a line of brief sentences, lift up guards from good people, greetings. “

For the sake of reading the answer letter the caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz said, “Enough of this as a warning … enough of this as a warning …”

Similarly, when the Caliphate turned to Hisham bin Abdul Malik, many famous and impressive events occurred between him and Thawus bin Kaisan.

An example is the event when Hisham came to perform the Hajj. As soon as he entered the Land of Haram, he said to the leaders of Mecca: “Find me a friend of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.” They said, “O Amirul Mukminin, the friends have died one by one until none is left.” Hisham said, “If thus, find among the tabi’in clerics! “Then Thawus bin Kaisan was called.

Thawus bin Kaisan came to face him, he opened his shoes on the edge of the rug, then greeted without mentioning “Amirul Mukminin” and only mentioned his name without honorary attributes. Then he immediately sat down before the Caliph gave permission and invited him.

Apparently Hisham was offended by the treatment, so that anger appeared from his eyes. He considered it impolite and disrespectful, especially in the presence of officials and bodyguards.

It’s just that he realized that he was in the Land of Haram, the house of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala so he held himself back and said,

Hisham: “Why did you do that, O Thawus?”

Thawus: “What am I doing?”

Hisham: “You take off your shoes on the edge of my rug, you don’t greet honor, you just call my name without a title then sit down before being invited.”

Thawus: “As for removing shoes, I take them off five times a day before God Almighty, so you should not be angry or angry. As for the problem I did not give a greeting without mentioning the title of the Believer of the Believers, that is because not all Muslims pay your respects to you. Therefore, I am afraid to be said to be a liar when calling you a believer in the faith. You are not willing to say your name without a degree of greatness, even though Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala called His prophets with their names, “O David, O Yahya, O Moses, O Isa.” Instead refer to the enemy by including a title (“Destroy the two hands of Abu Lahab and indeed he will perish”).

As for why I sat down before being invited, this was because I heard Amir al-mu’minin Ali bin Abi Talib said, “If you want to see an expert in hell, then look at a person who sits while the people around him stand.” . ”Amir al-mu’minin Hisham heard the explanation seriously.

Hisham: “O Abu Badurrahman, give me advice!”

Thawus: “I have heard Ali bin Abi Talib say,” In the land there are snakes as large as pillars and scorpions as big as horses. They bite and sting every ruler who is unfair to his people. “

After that he got up from his seat then left.

There are times when Thawus bin Kaisan came to the rulers to give instructions and advice. Sometimes he criticized and made them cry.

His son said, “One year we departed from Yemen to perform the Hajj, then stopped in a city where there was an official named Ibn Najih. He is the most depraved official, the most anti-starch towards the truth and most struggles in the valley of kebathilan.

Upon arrival, we stopped at the city mosque to perform fardhu prayers. Apparently Ibn Najih had heard about my father’s arrival so he came to the mosque. He sat next to my father and greeted him. But my father didn’t answer his greetings, even turning his back to his back. Then he approached from the right side and invited to speak, but my father ignored him. Similarly, when he tried from the left.

I went to Ibn Najih, gave a greeting and said, “Maybe daddy doesn’t know you.” He said, “Your father knows me, which is why he behaved like that to me.” Then he left without saying anything …

When I got home, my father said, “How stupid you are! If you are far away, you always criticize it hard, but if you are in front of you, you are down to him. Isn’t that what hypocrisy says? “

Thawus bin Kaisan’s advice was not only specifically for the caliph or officials and governors, but also for those who felt they needed it or for those who wanted his advice.

An example is the story narrated by Atha bin Abi Rabah as follows:

Once upon a time Thawus bin Kaisan saw me in a state he did not like, then said, “O Atha ‘, why did you express your needs to the person who closed the door in front of you and put the guards at his house?” invite you to come, and those who promise to fulfill their promises. “

Thawus bin Kaisan once advised his son, “O my son, associate with people who have reason because you will be included in their class. Don’t be friends with fools, because if you are friends with them, surely you will be included in their class, even though you are not like them. Know, for everything there must be a peak. And the peak of one’s degree lies in the perfection of religion and morality. “

Thus, his son Abdullah grew up in his guidance, living and behaving like his father. So naturally if the Abbasid caliph, Abu Ja’far al-Mansur called the son of Thawus, Abdullah and Malik bin Anas to visit. After both came and sat in front of him, the caliph looked at Abdullah bin Thawus as he said, “Tell me something that you got from your father!” He replied, “My father told me that the torment of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala was the hardest on the Day of Judgment. those who were given power then acted fraudulently. “

Malik bin Anas said, “By hearing these words, I immediately folded my clothes for fear of being splattered with blood. But it turned out that Abu Ja’far was just silent and then we were both allowed to go home safely. “

Thawus bin Kaisan’s age reached one hundred years or fewer. But old age does not change the slightest sharpness of memory, the genius of thought, and the speed of capture.

Abdullah Asyami told me, “I went to Thawus bin Kaisan’s house to learn something about him, while I did not know him. When I knock on the door, someone who is old is out. I gave a greeting then asked, “Are you Thawus bin Kaisan?” The old man replied, “No, I am his son.”

I said, “If you are his son, then surely the shaykh is old and may be senile. Even though I came from far away to learn from him. “Son of Thawus said,” Do not be foolish, people who teach the Book of Allah are not senile. Please come in!”

I went in, greeted and said, “I come to you because you want to learn and listen to your advice. Explain briefly. “Thawus said,” I will summarize as much as possible, God willing. Do you want me to tell about the essence of the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, and the Qur’an? “

I said, “Right.” He said, “Afraid of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala with unequaled fear. Ask Him for a request that is greater than your fear of Him. And please others as you please yourself. “

Night 10 Dzulhijah 106 H, died an elderly shaykh, namely Thawus bin Kaisan while carrying out the Hajj, from Arafat to Muzdalifah, on his fortieth trip.

At that time, he put his supplies, then prayed Maghrib and Isha. After that he lay his body on the ground to rest. It was at that time that death picked him up.

He died when away from family, far from his own country, in order to pray to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. He died in a state of rebellion and berihram to look for Allah’s Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, to get out of sins so that he returned to being born with the gift of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

When the sun rises and the body is to be cared for, the body is difficult to remove because of the tightness of the person who wants to deliver his body. Even the Emir of Mecca was forced to send his bodyguards to drive away the people who surrounded his body so that they could be properly taken care of. People who participated in the prayer of many people, only God could count them, including Amir al-mu’minin Hisham bin Abdul Malik ibn Marwan.

Tabi’in: Al-Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abu Bakr ash-Siddiq

How come the news to you about this great tabi’in? A young man collected on him praised from all sides, none of his praise escaped him.

His father was Muhammad bin Abu Bakr ash-Shidiq, his mother was the daughter of Yazdajir, the last Persian king. Whereas his father’s aunt was Aisha, the First Mother of Believers. In addition, above his head perched the crown of piety and knowledge. Do you still think there is a victory that is higher than the win that everyone competes for and competes for?

He was al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, one of the seven jurists of Medina, the most important of which was his knowledge in his day, the sharpest intelligence of his brain, and the best in his wara ‘nature. Let us open the sheet of his life from the beginning.

Al-Qasim bin Muhammad was born at the end of the Caliphate of Uthman ibn Affan radhiyallahu ‘anhu. Along with the growth and development of this child, the storm of slander is increasingly devastating to the Muslims. Until it resulted in the killing of the zuhud caliph, worship expert, Dzun Nurain Uthman bin Affan as a martyr, while the Koran was in his arms.

Shortly after that a major dispute arose between Amir al-mu’minin Ali ibn Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu with Mu’awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan bin Harb, governor of the Syam region. In a series of precarious circumstances and tense events, the child found himself and his younger sister taken from Madinah to Egypt, following his parents. His father was appointed governor of Egypt by the caliph Ali bin Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu.

In this city he had to watch the slander claws gripping further and further until finally his father died in a cruel manner. Then he moved again from Egypt back to Medina after the power was held by Mu’awiyah radhiyallahu ‘anhu. Now he is an orphan. Al-Qasim tells of the journey of his life which is full of suffering:

“After the killing of my father in Egypt, my uncle Abdurrahman came to take me and my younger sister to Medina. When he arrived in this city, my aunt, the First Believer, sent someone to take the two of them to be taken to his house and kept under his supervision.

It turned out that I had never met a better and greater mother and father than she did. He fed us with his hands, while he did not eat with us. When we leave our food, then he eats it. He loves us like a mother who is still nursing her baby. He bathed us, combed our hair, gave clean white clothes. He always encouraged us, to do good and train us for that with his example. He forbade us from committing evil deeds and told us to leave him far away. He also taught us to read the Kitabullah and narrate the traditions that we can understand. On holidays, love and gifts are added to us. Every evening on Arafah, he cut my hair, bathed me and my sister. In the morning we were given new clothes and then I was told to go to the mosque for Id prayers. When finished, I was collected with my sister and then we ate udhhiyah meat.

One day he put on a white shirt for us. Then I was seated on his lap, one was my sister in the other’s lap. Uncle Abdurrahman arrived at his invitation. Then Aisyiah’s aunt began to speak, she began with praise to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, truly I had never heard before and after that either a man or a woman who was more fluent in verbal and better said words from him. He said to uncle. “O my brother, I see you seem to have moved away from me since I took and cared for these two children. For God’s sake I did it not because it was presumptuous to you, not because I put a suspicion on you, and not because I did not believe that you could fulfill both of their rights. It’s just that you have more than one wife, while at that time these two children could not take care of themselves. So I worry if both of them are in an unfavorable and unpleasant situation in the view of your wives. So that I feel more entitled to fulfill their right at that time. But now both of them have grown up and have been able to take care of themselves, so bring them and I leave their responsibilities to you. “That’s how, finally my uncle Abdurrahman took us to his house.

It’s just that, the heart of the descendant of Abu Bakr is still adrift with his aunt’s house, Aisha. Missing the floor of the house mixed with the coolness of nubuwat. He developed and was cared for by the care of the owner of the house, he was full of love. Therefore, he divided his time between his aunt’s house and his uncle’s house.

Her aunt’s house really impresses her heart. The cool environment revives the heart during his life. Consider the impressions that are attached to his heart:

“One day, I said to my aunt Ayesha:” O mother, show me the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam and his two best friends, I would love to see it. “

The three tombs were inside the house, closed with something to obstruct the view. He showed us three graves which were not uploaded and were not strangled. All three were sprinkled with red pebbles as they were sprinkled on the courtyard of the mosque. I asked, “Which is the tomb of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam?” He pointed at one of them: “Here.” At the same time, two tears rolled down his cheeks, but immediately around so I did not see him. The tomb of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was somewhat more advanced than the tombs of his two friends.

I asked again, “Then which is the grave of my grandfather, Abu Bakr?” While pointing to a tomb he said, “This one.” I saw my grandfather’s tomb parallel to the shoulder of the Prophet. I said, “This one is Umar’s grave?” He replied, “Right.”

Stepping on a teenager, this grandson of Abu Bakr had memorized the Book of Allah and drew the traditions from his aunt, Aisha as much as Allah wanted. He diligently went to al-Haram an-Nabawi and was in the halaqah-halaqah of knowledge which lay in every corner of the mosque like sparkling stars scattered in the clear sky.

He attended his assembly Abu Hurairah, Abdullah bin Umar, Abdullah bin Abbas, Abdullah bin Zubair, Abdullah bin Ja’far, Abdullah bin Khabbab, Rafi ‘bin Khudaij, Aslam aide Umar bin Khathab and so on. Until in turn he became mujtahid imam and transformed into the most clever man in the sunnah of his day.

After perfect equipment for the young man who was the grandson of Abu Bakr, many people studied him attentively. While he gave his knowledge selflessly or sold expensive. He was never absent to go to the Nabawi Mosque every day, then pray two rakaat tahiyatul mosques then sat in the former place of Umar radhiyallahu ‘anhu at Raudhah, which is the place between the tomb of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam with its pulpit. Then gathered students from all directions to learn from fresh and clean sources, relieve souls who are thirsty for knowledge.

It did not take long, finally al-Qasim bin Muhammad and his aunt’s son, Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar, became two trusted Medina priests. Both of them become figures who are obeyed and heard, even though they do not have a position or power. The community raises both because of the nature of piety and wara ‘. Also because the inheritance in his chest is in the form of knowledge and understanding, coupled with the zuhud nature of what is owned by humans and hopes for a lot of things that are on the side of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

The dignity of both reached its peak until the Umayyad Caliphs and his subordinates respect him. These rulers never decided on a complicated problem except after listening to the opinions of the two scholars.

For example, when al-Walid bin Abdul Malik wished to expand the noble al-Haram an-Nabawi. This plan could not be carried out without dismantling the old mosque in all four directions and displacing the houses of the wives of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam for expansion.

This problem is vulnerable to division between Muslims and hurts their feelings. In view of this, the caliph wrote a letter to Umar bin Abdul Aziz, guardian of Medina, whose contents are as follows:

“I see the need to expand the Ash-Sharif Nabawi Mosque to 200 square feet. For this need, the four walls needed to be torn down and the houses of the Prophet’s wives were forced to expand. In addition, the surrounding houses need to be purchased and the qibla is advanced if possible. You are able to make that happen, considering your position among your uncles is the descendants of Ibnul Khathab and the extent of their influence in society.

If the residents of Medina reject it, you can seek help from al-Qasim and Salim bin Abdullah. Include both in this restoration and expansion plan. Don’t forget to pay compensation for people’s houses at the highest possible price. For you a good reward like that of Umar bin Khathab and Uthman ibn Affan. “

Immediately, the governor of Medina Umar bin Abdul Aziz invited al-Qasim bin Muhammad and Salim ibn Abdullah bin Umar and the leaders of the Muslims of Medina. When they were read out the order of the Caliph who had just been received. It turns out they were happy with what Amir al-mu’minin planned and prepared to support the plan.

Elsewhere, Muslim forces continued to get glorious victories. They succeeded in overthrowing enemy fortresses in Constantinople and captured city after city under the leadership of an agile and courageous commander, Maslamah bin Abdul Malik bin Marwan. This was the beginning of the opening of Constantinople.

The Roman Emperor heard of plans for the restoration and expansion of the Prophet’s Mosque, so he wanted to please and take care of Amir al-mu’minin. Sent 100 kilograms of pure gold accompanied by 100 architects from Rome and brought beautiful marble tiles. The assistance was sent by al-Walid to Umar bin Abdul Aziz. This Medina guardian would only use it after first having a discussion with al-Qasim bin Muhammad.

Tabi’in: Zainul Abidin Ali ibn Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib

That year, the history of the Persian empire was over. Yazdajird, the last emperor of Persi died in exile, while all property, soldiers and courtiers became prisoners of the Muslims. All of them were transported to Madinah al-Munawarah.

The victory of the Muslims produced a large number of prisoners, from a respectable circle and never had the residents of Medina seen the results of the ghanimah as much and so valuable as that. Among the prisoners were three emperor Yazdajird’s daughters.

People pay attention to the prisoners and a few moments later some of them buy it, while the pay is put into baitul maal of the Muslims. There was nothing left behind other than the beautiful princesses who were still young.

When offered for sale, they all bowed to the earth feeling despicable and low. Tears melted from their cheeks.

Ali bin Abi Talib felt sorry to see him and hoped that the people who would buy the daughters were people who could respect their dignity and be able to care for them well, because the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam once said, “Have mercy on the despised nobles.”

Immediately he approached Amir al-mu’minin Umar bin Khathab and proposed: “The princess of the emperor should not be treated like other captives.” Umar Radhiyallahu ‘anhu said, “You are right, but how?” Ali said, “Announce their prices as high as possible, then give them the freedom to choose people who are willing to pay for it. “

Ali’s advice was approved and immediately implemented by Umar. The first daughter chose Abdullah bin Umar, the second daughter chose Muhammad bin Abu Bakr, while the three who were summoned by Shah Zina chose Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu, grandson of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam.

Shortly after, the third daughter immediately embraced Islam and had a good Islamic faith. So he was lucky with a straight religion, also freed and made a wife by Hussein after he was a slave. After that he abandoned all matters relating to paganism (idol worship) and changed the name “Shah Zinan” which meant the queen of the women became “Ghazalah.”

Ghazalah was very happy to be the wife of the best and most deserving husband to get the king’s daughter. So that he no longer dreams of getting a gift from a child.

Some time later, Allah also glorified him, not long after he was blessed with a handsome child. He gave him the name Ali, the same as the name of his grandfather Ali bin Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu.

It’s just that, happiness was not long felt by Ghazalah. He immediately fulfilled his Rabb’s call due to continuous bleeding after giving birth. So there is no chance for him to have fun with his child.

Now, the child is being cared for by a slave girl. He is loved like the blood of his own flesh, kept better than his own son. So the little one grew up without knowing another mother besides the slave girl.

In his teens, Ali bin Husayn was very diligent and enthusiastic about studying. His first Madrasa was his own home, the noblest house and his teacher was his own father. The second Madrasah is the Ash-Sharif Nabawi Mosque which is crowded with remnants of the Companions of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam and the first generation of tabi’in.

They were so enthusiastic in educating the main sons of friends. Teaching Kitabullah, jurisprudence, as well as a history of the traditions of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam according to the target and the object he was aiming for. Also tells about the journey and the struggle of the Prophet, about the Arabic poetry and its beauty. Filling their hearts with love, fear, and piety to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. And finally they succeeded in becoming scholars who wanted to do good deeds and became guides for those who got instructions.

It’s just that Ali bin Husayn’s heart was not related to anything beyond his heart’s attachment to the Book of Allah. There is no other thing that is more admired and feared than the sentences, promises and threats that are in it.

If the verse that he read mentions heaven, it seems that he has a longing for him. When reading verses about hell, trembling trembles as if seeing and feeling the heat of fire on his body.

Entering adulthood, he grew into a young man who was rich in knowledge and devotion. The inhabitants of Medina found him as a young man of Banu Hashim who deserved to be exemplified by worship and his devotion, respect, knowledge and knowledge, reached the peak of worship and his piety. To the extent that every time ablution was seen his face was pale as if in fear. When asked about it, he replied, “Duhai wretched, don’t you know who I will be facing and who will I talk to?”

Seeing his personality, his people gave the nickname “Zainul Abidin” (Ornament of experts of worship) and this nickname was better known than his real name. In addition, due to prolonged prostration, residents of Medina also referred to it as “as-Sajjad.” And because of its clean soul, it was also dubbed “Az-Zakiy.”

Zainul Abidin believes that the marrow of worship is prayer. He himself likes to pray at the curtain of the Ka’ba with his prayer, “O my Rabb, You make me feel Your mercy on me as I feel and You give me pleasure as You have given me, so I pray in peace without fear and ask how I like without shame and doubt. O my Rabb, I bless you with the care of a weak servant who desperately needs your mercy and strength to carry out your obligations and fulfill your rights. Then accept my prayer, the prayer of the weak, foreign and no one is able to help except you alone, O Akramal Akramin … “

Thawus bin Kaisan had seen Zainul Abidin standing in the shadow of Baitul Atiq (ka’bah), gelagapan like a drowning person, crying like the lament of a sick person and praying constantly like someone who was desperately desperate for needs. After Zainul Abidin finished praying, Thawus bin Kaisan approached and said,

Thawus: “O great grandson of the Messenger of Allah, I see you in such a state even though you have three virtues that I think can secure you from fear.”

Zainul Abidin: “Is that O Thawus?”

Thawus: “First, you are the descendants of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam. Second, you will get intercession from your grandfather and thirdly, God’s mercy for you. “

Zainul Abidin: “O Thawus, my line of descent from the Prophet did not guarantee my security after I heard the word of God:

“… then the trumpet was blown again, so there was no longer any connection between them that day …” (Surat al-Mukminun: 101)

As for my grandfather’s intercession, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala has revealed His word:

“They do not give intercession but to those who are blessed by Allah.” (QS. Al-Anbiya: 28)

As for the mercy of God, look at His words:

“Surely the mercy of Allah is very close to those who do good.” (Surah Al-A’raf: 56)

The destiny of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala desires, the piety of Zainul Abidin is truly not exceeded by others. Its policies, generosity and true nature. No wonder the story of his life always enlivened the history books and scented his pages with his nobleness. Among them is the history of Hasan bin Hasan:

There had been a dispute between me and my uncle’s son, Zainul Abidin. I went to him when he was in the mosque with his friends. I cursed it all out, but he just kept quiet until I came home. At night someone knocked on the door of my house. I opened it to see who was coming. Apparently Zainul Abidin. I don’t doubt anymore, he will definitely repay my treatment this afternoon. But it turned out he was just talking, “O my brother, if what you said was true, may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala forgive me. And if what you say is not true, may He forgive you … “Then he passed after saying hello.

Feeling guilty, I chased after him and said, “Really, I won’t repeat words that you don’t like.” He said, “I have forgiven you.”

Another story told by a young Madinah narrates, “When I saw Zainul Abidin coming out of the mosque, I followed him and immediately cursed him. It turns out that it makes people angry. They crowded around me. Had they really done it, I would have been battered. Fortunately, at that time Zainul Abidin said, “Leave this man alone.” So they allowed myself.

Seeing me trembling with fear, he stared with a friendly face and reassured, then said, “You have harmed me as far as you know, even though what you don’t know is even greater. Do you have a need so I can help you? “

I became very embarrassed and said nothing. When he saw my signal, he gave me a shirt and a thousand dirhams. Since then, every time I see it, I say, “I testify that you really are indeed the descendants of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam. “

The next story was told by his aides, “I am the servant of Ali bin Husein. One time I was told to fulfill one of his needs, but I was late doing it. As soon as I came I was whipped by him.

I cried in anger because he had never whipped anyone before that. I said, “Allah … Allah … O Ali bin Husein, why when you told me to fulfill your needs, but after I fulfilled you just hit me?”

He was shocked and then cried to hear my words. Then said, “Go to the Nabawi Mosque, pray two rak’ahs then pray, Allah O Allah, forgive Ali bin Hussein.” If you want to do it, you will liberate me. “I followed his words. I pray and pray as he asks. When I returned to his house, I had become a free person. “

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala gave the gift of abundant wealth to Zainul Abidin. His trade was always profitable and his farm was fertile, managed by his slaves. Increasingly progressing trade and agriculture are increasing in wealth.

But Zainul Abidin did not have fun with his wealth. His attitude does not change. His wealth is used to build the path of goodness to the hereafter. That is, wealth becomes beautiful in the hands of righteous servants. Among the good deeds that he likes are charity secretly.

As the night began to get dark, he carried a sack of flour on his back, out through the darkness of the night when people slept soundly. He went around the house of the needy who did not like to stretch his hands.

No wonder there are many poor people of Medina who live without knowing where they fall from. After Ali bin Husein died and they no longer received the sustenance, then they realized who the generous human was.

When Zainul Abidin’s body was bathed, there were black marks on his back, so they asked those who bathed him: “What is this former?” After the death of Zainul Abidin, the help of the needy was cut off.

Massive slave liberation by Zainul Abidin was spread by nomads to the east and west. His behavior seems like a tale that is engineered and exceeds the count of those who count it.

Zainul Abidin used to free slaves who worked well in return for them. He also freed slaves who had been beaten or persecuted as ransoms. It was amazing that he had freed a thousand slaves and had never used the power of a slave for more than a year. Most of them were freed at night edul I care Fithri, a night full of blessings. He asked them to face the Qibla and pray: “O Allah, forgive Ali bin Husein,” before they left, he gave him double provisions to widen so that they felt multiple happiness.

He was loved and respected by all residents of Medina. When he walks to the mosque or returns from him, people always pay attention to him from the side of the road.

Ever Hisham bin Abdul Malik, who was serving as Amir al-mu’minin, came to Mecca for Hajj. When he thawaf and wanted to kiss Hajar Aswad, the guards ordered the people to make way for him. But they did not want to step aside and ignored Amir al-mu’minin’s entourage, because it was the house of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and all humans were His servants.

Meanwhile from a distance there was the sound of tahlil (laa ilaaha illallah) and takbir, in the midst of the crowd a person with a small figure, his face glowing, seemed calm, and authoritative. He wore a cloth and a robe, on his forehead was a former prostration. People stand in line, welcoming with a view full of love and longing. He continued walking towards Hajar Aswad then kissed him.

A bodyguard turned to Hisham: “Who are the people who are respected in such a way by the people?” Hisham said, “I do not know.” Farazdak was present nearby, then he said, “Perhaps Hisham is not familiar, but I know him. He is Ali bin Husein. “Next he poems:

This person, the rocks he stepped on also knew

Haram and Baitullah also knew him

He is the best son among all the servants of God

Devoted, holy, clean, and the breadth of his knowledge

He is the grandson of Fatima if you don’t know her yet

Great-grandson of the person whom Allah closed the Prophets with him

Your question “who he is” does not reduce his fame

Arabs and Ajam know, even though you don’t know him

His hands are like rain, all of them use it

Humans need a helping hand

Nobody was disappointed by him

Never said “no” other than in his tasyahud

Even if it’s not because of shahadah, surely there is only the word “yes”

Spread goodness in the midst of humans

Sir, tyranny, poor and poor

If the Quraysh saw him it must have said:

Is that so high?

Bowed his eyes in shame at him

Feeling dwarfed by his greatness

Never forget to smile when speaking

In his hand was a stick that smelled of aroma

From the hands of intelligent humans, the nose smells the fragrance

His descendants of the Prophet were originally

What a noble origin, morality, and temperament

May Allah be the great grandson of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and he is pleased. Indeed, he is a portrait of a man who is afraid of Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, both alone and in crowds, fulfilling his soul with fear of the torment of Allah and the hope of His reward.

Tabi’in: Rufai bin Mihran, Abu al-Aliyah

Rufai bin Mihraan, nicknamed Abu al-Aliyah, included clerics among Muslim clerics, figures among memorizing figures of the Qur’an and Muhadditsin (hadith experts). He included tabi’in who knew the most about the Kitabullah, most understood the hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, at most the level of his understanding of the Koran al-Aziz and most deeply understood the intentions and secrets contained in it. So let us trace the history of his life from the beginning.

His life history is full of exemplary attitudes and glory, abundant with valuable advice and lessons.

Rufai bin Mihraan was born in Persia. In that country he also grew up. When the Muslims entered the country of Persia to expel the population from darkness to light. Rufai was one of the young men who fell into the hands of loving Muslims, then was taken to their laps which were full of goodness and glory.

Then a few moments he and others who pay attention to the nobleness of Islam, then compare with what they profess as idol worshipers, finally they enter the religion of Allah in droves. Then they began to study the Book of Allah, they were thirsty for the traditions of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.

Rufai tells about what he experienced:

I and some of my people became captives of the Mujahideen, then we became slaves to a group of Muslims in Basrah. Soon afterwards we finally believed in Allah and were interested in memorizing the Book of Allah. Among us there was someone who redeemed himself to his employer and there was someone who remained devoted to his employer. I am one of them. At first we recited the Qur’an every night, but it was very burdensome for us. Then we agreed to keep the two nights closed, but it still felt hard for us. Then we agreed to recite the Qur’an every three days, but we still felt it was hard because we had to work a lot during the day and stay up late at night.

Then we met some of the companions of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam and complained about our situation which had to stay up last night to recite the Kitabullah. They said, “Take care of every Friday.” So we did what they suggested. We read the Koran on a part of the night and could sleep part of the night and after that we did not feel objections.

Rufai bin Mihraan is owned by a female employer from Bani Tamim. He is a steadfast, intelligent, and respectable employer and his soul is full of piety and faith. Rufai helped in part of the afternoon and rested for another part of the afternoon. He uses his free time to read and write. He used it to deepen religious knowledge without the slightest disruption of his duties.

One Friday, Rufai ’made his ablution and enlarged his wudh and then asked his employer’s permission to leave. His employer said, “Where are you going, O Rufai? Rufai replied, “I want to go to the mosque.” The employer asked, “Which mosque do you mean?” He replied, “Jami Mosque” “His employer said,” Then let’s go with me. “So the two went to the mosque and entered the mosque like the others . But Rufai did not understand the purpose of his employer.

When the Muslims had gathered, Rufai’s employer spoke up, “Witness O Muslims, in fact I have freed my slave (Rufai) for expecting God’s reward, asking for His forgiveness and pleasure. And that it is not worthy for someone to take a way but a good way. “Then he turned to Rufai and prayed to Allah:

“O God, I made it as a saving in Your side on a day when there was no benefit to wealth and children.”

When finished praying, Rufai had walked alone while his employer had walked on his own.

Since that day Rufai bin Mihraan often went back and forth to Madinah al-Munawarah. He had met ash-Siddiq radhiyallahu ‘anhu shortly before his death. He was also lucky to be able to meet the emir of the believers (Umar bin Khaththab), study the Koran to him and pray behind him.

In addition to struggling with the Kitabullah, Rufai whose nickname is Abu al-Aliyah is also familiar with the traditions of the Prophet. So he tried to listen to the hadith history of the tabi’in whom he met in Basrah. But a strong desire in his soul will appear to be more than that. So often he took the time to go to Medina to hear the hadith directly from the companions of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, so that there was no limit between himself and the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam but one person or two people.

He narrated the hadith from Abdullah bin Mas’ud, Ubai bin Ka’ab, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Abu Hurairah, Abdullah bin Abbas and other friends.

Abu al-Aliyah is not only enough to take hadith in Medina al-Munawarah. But he did not hesitate to hunt down the hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam wherever he was. If it is said to him there is someone who has knowledge, then he pulls the bridle of the vehicle even though it is far away, even though it takes a long time. If he arrived, he prayed behind the intended person. If he gets the prayer not really and is inconsistent with the sunah, he does not pay attention to the rights of prayer, then he turns away while muttering, “Surely the person who underestimates prayer is certainly for matters that are otherwise more disparaging. Then he took his provisions and returned home.

Abu al-Aliyah achieved achievements in science soared far from all his peers. One of his friends said, “I saw Abu al-Aliyah ablution, water dripping from his face and hands, he did thaharah on the limbs as he should. I greet him and say. “Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and like thaharah.” Then he said, “O my brother, what is meant (the verse) is not people who do thaharah with dirty water, but they are thaharah with fear of sin.” what he said, then I got that he was the right one while I was wrong. Then I said, “May God reward you with kindness and add knowledge and understanding to you.”

Abu al-Aliyah used to encourage people to be enthusiastic in seeking knowledge, and show them the way to reach it. He said, “Busy yourself to study and multiply to ask about it. Know that knowledge will not perish for those who are ashamed (in terms of knowledge) and arrogant people. A person who is shy does not want to ask because of shame, an arrogant person does not ask because of his arrogance. “

He also encouraged his students to study the Koran, take care of it and hold fast to what was contained in it and turn away from all the things bid’ah that was being invoked. He said, “Study the Koran, if you learn it, then don’t deviate from it, take the right path, that is Islam. Stay away from you lust and bid’ah, because he will arouse animosity and hatred among you. Do not discard the things that have been taken by the companions of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam before they split.”

The words were delivered to Hasan al-Basri and he commented, “By Allah Abu al-Aliyah really advised you correctly.”

In addition, he also guided his santri how to memorize the Koran, he said, “Study the Qur’an five verses, five verses, because it is easier for you to remember and more likely for you to understand. Because Gabriel reduced the Qur’an to the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam five verses-five verses. “

Abu al-Aliyah is not just a teacher but also an educator. Because he fills the brains of his students with useful knowledge, nourishes their hearts with good advice, often collects two things in his advice. Among them is his advice to them:

“Verily Allah has decreed for Himself, that whosoever believes in Him Allah will give him guidance. The argument is the word of Allah Ta’ala:

“And whoever believes in Allah, surely He will give guidance to his heart.” (Surah At-Thaghabun: 11)

And God decreed that those who put their trust in Him would surely suffice. The argument is the word of Allah Ta’ala:

“And whoever put his trust in Allah surely Allah will fulfill (his need).” (QS. Ath-Thalaq: 3)

And Allah will determine whoever lends to Allah, Allah will replace it. The argument is the word of Allah Ta’ala:

“Who wants to give a loan to God, a good loan (spend his wealth in the way of Allah), then Allah will multiply the payment to him by multiplying a lot.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 245)

And whoever prays to Him surely Allah will grant it. The argument is the word of Allah Ta’ala:

“And when my servants ask you about me, then (answer) that I am near. I grant the request of the person who prays when he pleads with me. “(QS. Al-Baqarah: 186)

He also advised his students:

“Reside with obedience, and accept those who are obedient because of their obedience to God. Stay away from immorality and enemies the perpetrators of immorality because of the immorality he did. Then hand over the business of the person who has the accusation to God, if Allah wills, he will be admonished and if He wills it will be forgiven. If you hear there is someone who is noble in his soul then say, “Indeed, I love for seeking the pleasure of Allah and turning away from this because of fear of Allah”, then you are beyond borders. “

Abu al-Aiyah is not just an amilun cleric, nor is he merely a counselor and guide, but also a mujahid fii sabilillah. He took the time to plunge into the fields of jihad with the mujahidin, or ribath (just in case) the arrival of enemies on the border with the murabithun. He preferred jihad against the Romans in Sham and also Persia, the country across the Jihun river. He was the first time a call to prayer in these countries.

When there was a war between Ali and Mu’awiyah, he had an attitude, he told me:

“When there was a war between Ali and Mu’awiyah, I was a passionate person. The war I preferred was more than cold water in the dry season. So I prepared the equipment and went to them. It turned out that in front of me had stood two rows of troops facing the invisible end. If one line chants takbir, the other lines shout out takbir. If one shouted La ilaaha Illallah, the other group shouted La ilaaha Illallah. Then I asked myself: “Which of the two groups of troops do I consider infidels and will I fight? Which do I consider believers so that I will strive with him? Then I leave both of them and leave. “

Abu al-Aliyah throughout his life still felt disappointed, because he did not meet the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. So he replaced it by approaching the main friends, who were closely related to Muhammad the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. He prioritized them over him while they prioritized him over themselves.

As proof is when Anas – the assistant of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam gave an apple present in his hand to him. Then he took it and kissed it and said, “The apple that has been touched by the hand that once touched the hand of the Prophet, the apple that has been touched by the hand that has been honored for ever touching the hand of the Prophet.”

Another example, when Abu al-Aliyah met Abdullah bin Abbas who was then governor of Basrah under the rule of Ali bin Abi Talib. Abdullah bin Abbas welcomed him very well, he sat on his bed and sat on his right side. At that time the Majlis was attended by Quraysh officials. They glanced at each other and whispered among themselves: “Don’t you see how Ibn Abbas seated the slave on his bed?” Ibn Abbas who saw their signs turned towards them and said, “Indeed, the knowledge adds glory to the noble, and elevates the degree of its owner in the midst of men and sit the kings like captives. “

One year, Abu al-Aliyah was determined to go to jihad fii sabilillah. So he prepared his supplies and tied him on his vehicle with the mujahidin. At dawn, there was a severe wound on one of his feet. Then the pain increases gradually. When a physician looked at him, he said: “This is famous aklah.” He asked, “Is that aklah?” The physician said, “That is a disease that will kill cells and propagate little by little until it hits the whole body. his agreement to cut his legs to half a calf, then he agreed.

So the physician prepared amputation equipment, a knife to cut meat and saws to cut bones. Then the physician said, “Will you take an anesthetic so that you don’t feel pain when you cut and cut off his legs?” He replied, “But there is something better for me than that.” The physician asked, “What is that?” reciter ‘who reads the Book of Allah, ask him to read to me verses that are easy and clear. If you see my face has turned red, my eyes are pointing towards the sky, then do as you please. “So they carried out the request and they cut off his legs.

When the amputation was finished, the physician said to Abu al-Aliyah, “As if you do not feel pain when amputated.” Then he held his foot with his hand and he looked at him and said, “If I meet my Rabb on the Day of Judgment and ask if I have walked with you (the leg that has been cut) to an unclean place for 40 years or me have you walked in a place that is not allowed? Surely I will answer, ‘Never’ and I am honest with my words, God willing. “

After that, because of the piety of Abu al-Aliyah and because he felt close to the Day of Judgment and his preparation to meet his Rabb, he had prepared a shroud for him. He used the shroud once a month then he returned it to its place. He has had his heart 17 times even though he is still healthy and fresh. He gives limits to each testament. If the time limit has expired he sees it again, maybe he replaces it or resigns it.

In Shawwal in the year 93 AH Abu al-Aliyah departed to meet his Rabb by bringing his holy heart, convinced by God’s grace and longing to meet his Prophet.
